The book lovers of Kolkata witnessed a fire break out in Milan Mela grounds on Saturday morning. However, the organisers were quick enough to act and four fire engines were immediately put to use, thereby, extinguishing the fire within five minutes.
It was at about 9:30 a.m. when the flames erupted at a coffee stall. Although the blaze did not bring forth any large scale damage yet withing the short span of time , it burned down the coffee stall completely and even affected the stall next to it. A short-circuit caused the fire to break out , suspects the police. The organisers informed that the situation was brought under control before it could create panic or terror among the visitors or publishers. The number of food stalls, too, has been reduced from 30 to 27 this year, reported a member of the organising committee.
There were no reports of injuries or damage and yet, this incident reminded all the book lovers in Kolkata of the gruesome fire that burned and ravaged thousands of books in the book fair of 1997. Proper steps and precautions should be taken so that incidents such as this are not repeated in the future years.
